It all starts with character. Many “at-risk” behaviors in youth today contribute to increased sexual activity. The CDC estimates that nearly 20 million new sexually transmitted infections occur every year in this country, half among young people ages 15-24, affecting 1 in 4 teenage girls. Each infection jeopardizes their physical and emotional health, their future and potentially their lives.
Across the United States:
- 4 in 10 sexually active teen girls have had a sexually transmitted disease that can cause infertility and even death.
- 1 in 6 people ages 14-49 have genital herpes.
- 1 in 3 sexually active teen girls will become pregnant before age 20.
Did you know that 2/3 of teens that have sex wish they had waited?
